Get Plug-in for CAS Registry BLAST®


A free browser plug-in is required to use the BLAST Sequence Search Assistant.

The plug-in With some versions of Windows, e.g. XP, the user must have permission to modify the Windows Registry to complete the installation of the plug-in. This may require the assistance of your network administrator.

Please print these instructions and refer to them while downloading and installing this free plug-in.

  Instructions for Windows Users 

To download the plug-in, begin by clicking here:


  1. A Warning box may display. Click OK.
  2. When the Save As dialog appears, you must save this program to disk. Take note of the directory to which you are downloading and saving the software.
  3. Click Save to continue. The downloaded file is named ssplugin.exe.
  4. When complete, you are returned to this page.
  5. Close the browser.

To install the plug-in,
  1. Go to the directory where ssplugin.exe was saved. If you need help finding it,
    • Click the Windows Start button and select Find/Files or Folders.
    • In the Find dialog box, enter ssplugin.exe in the Named box. Click Find Now.
  2. When ssplugin.exe is found, double-click that file.
  3. Follow the instructions in the set-up wizard.

After installation, to use the Sequence Search Assistant, follow these steps:
  1. Start your browser and log in to STN on the Web.
  2. In the Navigation (left) frame, open the Search Assistants folder, then click on Sequence Asst.
  3. Click on the Launch CAS Registry BLAST button to start up the BLAST search application.
  4. Follow the Help links on the Sequence Assistant main page for additional instructions on using the BLAST search capabilities.
  • Please note: the first time you use CAS Registry BLAST, you may need to configure proxy settings in the application. You can do this by clicking on the Prefs button in the toolbar. If you need help in configuring your proxy settings, please follow the Help links on the Sequence Assistant main page to the section titled "Launching CAS Registry BLAST".
